History of the Fleurieu Peninsula

The Fleurieu Peninsula (FLOO-ree-oh) is a beautiful region located near to Adelaide, in South Australia. The area is a popular destination for many travelling visitors, thanks to the many attractions of its natural landscape, and various exciting recreational activities on offer. However, the Fleurieu Peninsula is especially known for its exceptional fresh food and wines.

There are dozens of small, peaceful country towns scattered around the Peninsula, serving the needs of the farming communities in the area, while still preserving the famous gentle pace of the South Australian countryside.

We think our farm is perfectly positioned—nestled in this stunning natural landscape—where we can grow, nurture, and harvest high-quality fresh produce of which we can be proud.

We weren’t always here…

Until 2003, Pitchford Produce grew vegetables at Echunga in the Adelaide Hills, but could only harvest for 7 months of the year because of the wet winters. Because of this limitation, in March of 2003, Graeme decided to sell the Echunga farm and purchase the first lot of land at Currency Creek for the new farm.

Now being only about 8 kilometres inland from the Murray River mouth, the new location has the benefit of the more temperate environment due to the coastal influence and thus can produce vegetables all year round, allowing the farming operation to grow in capacity, consistency, and scale.
